Data Protection Act compliance policy

Redbridge Neighbourhood Watch Trust are aware of the obligation to comply with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1988.

  • We ARE a "not for profit" organisation and comply with all the requisite conditions for exemption.
  • We ask for names of coordinators, but readily accept pseudonyms.
  • We ask for postcodes for the pupose of correct Ward identification only. These can identify a road, but not any given house.
  • We need a functioning e:mail address to process the password procedure, passwords are kept securely and are not visible or accessible by any Administrator of the site.
  • We request telephone numbers, but only for the purpose of difficulty in the process of password administration.
  • For new requests to become a coordinator, we share these basic details with the Police, so they may register and process the application.
  • We DO NOT maintain (and have no intention of doing so in the future) a centralised database of members.

Are you a not for profit organisation that qualifies for an exemption?

Answer ‘Yes’ if your organisation was established for not-for-profit making purposes and does not make a profit. You can answer ‘yes’ if your organisation makes a profit for its own purposes, as long as the profit is not used to enrich others. You must:

  • only process information necessary to establish or maintain membership or support; and
  • only process information necessary provide or administer activities for people who are members of the organisation or have regular contact with it; and
  • only share the information with people and organisations necessary to carry out the organisation’s activities. Important - if individuals give you permission to share their information, this is OK (you can still answer ‘yes’); and
  • only keep the information while the individual is a member or supporter or as long as necessary for member/supporter administration.
